Breathing in Peace
I am participating in something new every Friday. I am joining a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. We get one word prompts and only 5 minutes to write about that topic. This week's prompt is: Breathe.
In bible study this week, we talked about the significance of the crucifixtion. One question asked was, "Why was it that Jesus had to die by crucifixtion?" After of course, thinking about payment of sin, I immediately thought of the importance of breath in the bible. God gave life to Adam by breathing into his lungs. Also, 2 Timothy 3:16 says all scripture is God-breathed. So how interesting it is that sin was paid physically, in the natural, in a way that Jesus' (God in flesh) breath was taken away through the suffocating act of crucifixtion. God values what we breathe in, most importantly his Word.
Lately, I've been feeling I've been breathing in a lot of the negativity spewed on social media, news media, and yes, even those close to me. My goal in the coming weeks and months is to breathe in God's Word more than the other stuff, because it is truly useful for, "teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." I want peace.
